On Saturday, January 18, 2020, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County will celebrate its community’s 39th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast, at the Crowne Plaza Resort on Resort Drive in West Asheville. The 2020 keynote speaker will be Dr. Joy DeGruy, author of Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America’s Legacy of Enduring Injury & Healing. Holding two masters degrees, in Social Work and Clinical Psychology, and a PhD in Social Work Research, Dr. DeGruy is an acknowledged expert on the intersection of racism, trauma, violence, and American chattel slavery. In an interview with The Chalkboard Project in Portland, Oregon, she said, “The history of segregation in this country separated everyone and created the idea of ‘othering’ people… Black people have figured how to thrive in a hostile environment, where they don’t feel wanted or safe. Those stressors have become a part of daily living for families.”
We invite you to support our ongoing efforts to achieve Dr. King’s ideals by advertising in our Souvenir Journal, which will be distributed to more than 1,000 citizens gathered at the Crowne Plaza Resort yearly. Contact us for deadlines.
Advertising prices along with copy and size specifications are on the enclosed order form. If you wish to reserve a patron table ($350.00) for your group, please include your request and ticket payment with your advertising order, or contact us no later than Dec. 14.
