Black & Red Gala

The Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County sponsors an annual Black and Red Gala to assist with the funding of free events for the public.  These free events highlight the Community Outreach Providing Empowerment (COPE) Initiative, which focuses on empowering residents living in Asheville and Buncombe County through educational outreach, workshops, seminars, and special events.

Each year, the Association solicits community partners and sponsors to aid in this effort.  The program goals include:

  • To provide year-round educational outreach to local communities
  • To provide programming that reinforces African American contributions in the areas of education and entrepreneurship
  • To instill community pride by sponsoring programs that reinforce the rich heritage of African Americans that created the foundation of Asheville and Buncombe County communities
  • To partner with like-minded organizations in our Stand Against Racism and Juneteenth Celebrations

Previous free community programming has included:

  • African American Heritage Program
  • African American Entrepreneurship Program
  • Stand Against Racism Program
  • Juneteenth Celebration Program

We welcome community support for the Black & Red Gala.  Please consider supporting the event by donating gift certificates, merchandise, services and/or purchase tickets to the event.  More information pertaining to the 2018 Black & Red Gala will be announced later.
